discosafari - SERENDEEPITY presents Dance Drugstore Records

Dance Drugstore 1994-2000 is the first release of the Milan, Italy based record store Serendeepity run by Nicola Mazzetti. It features a collection of tracks formerly released on 7” vinyl only by Dance Drugstore Records in the Netherlands. The original coloured 7” singles were released in the period from 1994 to 2000 in small limited editions quickly sold out around the world.

The compilation exclusively holds one previously unreleased track from the same time period. There are 8 tracks in total compiled from the original 7”s.

All have been written and produced by Miss Elke K., Hennie V. and friends in various analog homestudios across the Netherlands. The tracks have been recorded with classic machines such as the Roland TB303, CR8000, TR606, TR808, Korg MS10, Speak & Spell Machine, Casio keyboards and more. The Dance Drugstore label supported classic analog acid and techno sounds only. Their ambition was to spread music, adventure, fun, excitement.

TESSELA - Rough 2 - R & S Records

discosafari - TESSELA - Rough 2 - R & S Records

Since the release of Tessela's R&S debut, Nancy's Pantry, the momentum has snowballed.
Earning a Radio 1 residency alongside James Blake, and a busy gigging schedule, Tessela AKA Ed Russell now offers up 'Rough 2' - the eagerly anticipated next instalment of his alchemic blend of tripped out sonics and punishing percussion.
Russell has amplified the disorientating elements that swim around the fragmented drum breaks and squirting laser blasts, challenging dancefloors at the same time as tearing them up.
'Rough 2' opens the release up in classic style - a frenetic batacuda style drum announces the track before giving way to unhinged re-pitched synth chords and swirling filter blasts, on the flip 'Butchwax' provides a muscular drum track and crunched up, stuttering stabs of funk, whilst the twisted 'C'mon Let's Slow Dance' sees Russell going further and deeper then ever before with a semi beatless, hallucinogenic laser light show that really pushes the boundaries of his sound to breaking point.

PERC & TRUSS - Two Hundred - Perc Trax Ltd

Almost a year after they unveiled their collaboration with the wall of sound that was the ‘Spiker’ 12” Perc & Truss return to their home on the Perc Trax Ltd label to serve up a fresh four track EP of live analogue jams. Once again the tracks were recorded in one take. All mistakes, happy accidents and bizarre unexplainable audio artefacts have been kept in place, with no post-production or further editing done once the first take was recorded. These tracks cover more ground than the three on Spiker, but the Perc & Truss collaboration is no experimental vanity project, with all four new tracks aiming straight at the dancefloor.
Title track and opener ‘Two Hundred’ leads the way with caustic acid providing the foundation for a classic London cabbie-rant vocal, whilst ‘Judd’ layers all manner of malfunctioning effect pedal sounds over a triplet rhythm track. On the b-side ‘Forever Your Girl’, a mainstay of Perc’s sets for months now, leads the charge, as rave interludes provide a breather from the kind of kick drum volley tailor-made for Awakening’s Gashouder home. Finally ‘Van Der Valk’ mixes hardcore stabs over an icy electro-tinged groove and crowd samples, stretching the Perc & Truss sound further than ever before.

A1) Two Hundred
A2) Judd
B1) Forever Your Girl
B2) Van Der Valk

ANSWER CODE REQUEST - Code - Ostgut Ton

discosafari - ANSWER CODE REQUEST - Code - Ostgut Ton

“Code“ is the debut LP from Berlin producer Answer Code Request on Ostgut Ton. Whether his DJ sets, the increasing appearances as a live act or with impressive releases on Marcel Dettmann Records and his own label ACR – as an emergent Berghain resident, Patrick Gräser is also one of the new exciting faces on the label. After the “Breathe EP“, his debut release on Ostgut Ton, his first long-player was not only a matter of time, but the next logical step.
“Code“ is a statement that coquettishly plays with the crucial question of electronic music – which tasks and perspectives a techno album should demonstrate – it also challenges current listening expectations. Even though the primacy of functionality seems to be engraved in stone as a paradigm, ACR turns his back on just a mere collection of dancefloor tracks. All created during the last year, the twelve tracks introduce a genuine, reverent and adult sound concept which presents itself as an fog-shrouded journey through time – combining Gräser’s influences and history with several genres of dance music: From Detroit-inspired elegies over the UK Sound with its break beats and IDM references to the warm side of Berlin techno from the 90’s. Despite the occasional nostalgic depth, „Code“ is shrouded in a shadowy aura and a mystical mood that runs like a common thread through these tracks.
Following on from the calm of title track, “Blue Russian“ unveils Gräser’s verve for detailed structure. His synthesis of swirling sci-fi sounds and stoical percussion develop a seething climax, which is constantly fed by his dramatic pads. “Field Depth“ with its tandem of warm synths and the precise, powerful bass drum clarifies that ACR’s author-focused techno goes way beyond the composition of mere sketches. The UK-influenced design between warm and dark sounds evokes a mix of claustrophobia and restlessness while enchanting shades converse like they are hailing from a foreign galaxy. “Odyssey Sequence“ sets foot on disturbing terrain where an ambient synth arrangement unfolds itself in the manner of a sound painting in atmospheric gliding flight. “Zenith“ emphasizes the drum-based focus of his compositions, whilenext to its rigidity a melodic figure communicates in the background like sparkling moments of longing and hope.
“Relay Access“ continues this fragile magic in a downtempo-driven way where each beat, each soundscape and even the rudimentary, swirling spirals enjoy sufficient room to develop. Euphoria or frenzy remain only as skeletons because Gräser’s trademark is distinguished primarily by his interest for harmonic motifs. For him the superiority of the 4/4-kick is not an inviolable rule, in “Status“ he just indicates the floor as a fixpoint from where to carry out some grumbling bass modulations in unison with mechanical hi-hats and oracular soundscapes. Both the rattling breaks of “Haul“ as well as the mantra-like prayer “Spin Off“ embody a non-conformist ritual, before the British artist and singer Elizabeth Bernholz, known from her project Gazelle Twin, brings her impressive timbre between whispers and choral meditation into heavy pulsation backed by some heartthrob beats on “Axif“.
As the final sounds of the dreamy “Thermal Capacity“ fade away, the moment has been reached where “Code“ is halfway deciphered. Patrick Gräser’s debut adds a pondering and sublime facet to the Ostgut Ton catalog, while also being emancipated from the dancefloor. Despite the references to historical roots, Answer Code Request combines his passion for break beats, IDM nuances and complex drum patterns to create a modern listening record that breathes the modern aspects of the present with thoughtful impetus. Fresh and timeless!

He/aT - A Terrible Misunderstanding - He/aT

discosafari - He/aT - A Terrible Misunderstanding - He/aT

“Killer Techno” - Hardwax (on He/aT 001)
He/aT (pronounced “Heat”) is a new project from an established UK producer. This is the second He/aT EP to date, following on from the “A Death In The Family EP” release earlier this summer. Limited to a vinyl-only pressing of 500 (which sold out immediately), it was not repressed, bringing He/aT to the attention of the techno community. “A Terrible Misunderstanding EP” contains 4 tracks of fresh, raw, bass-heavy techno; as tempered and toughened as it is controlled, as melodic as it is intricate. This EP continues to build upon the rich history of proper techno from middle England, and also unfolds the next chapter in the rise of He/aT.

NINA KRAVIZ - MR Jones - Rekids

Discosafari - NINA KRAVIZ - MR Jones - Rekids

Nina Kraviz returns to Rekids with her first release of original material since 2012's self-titled debut album. The Mr Jones EP sees her unveiling material originally made in 2008 - presented on the digital release in original and updated 2013 versions - alongside brand new productions and a collaboration with Detroit's Luke Hess, offering a great way to hear how the the producer's music has evolved over time. The Mr Jones EP features some of my very first tracks and brand new ones: 'Mr Jones' is about a person who is always looking for truth around him and brave enough to always say what he thinks - it was originally made in Moscow in 2008, which I revisited this year and now releasing as both a new 2013 version, with the untouched 2008 version featured on the digital release known as the 'Home Listening Mix', for which I think it is better suited. It was made by a combination of my vocals recorded in real time over a few takes, which then went through different FX, tones and machines to create a kind of voodoo feeling that was unique to the very special Moscow morning on which it was recorded.
'Sheer' is one of my first approaches to making a techno track in 2008. All the vocals featured are my own - I made a few different mixdowns of the track, one of which is available on the digital release with a different structure and mastering. 'Black White' is another earlier track: a stranger-sounding one I began making in a Miami hotel room some time ago - maybe some of that scenario has made it into the track... 'Desire' and 'Remember' are brand new tracks: 'Desire' was freshly made in my Berlin studio one month ago, while 'Remember' is my collaboration with Luke Hess, produced and recorded by us both in Luke's Detroit studio earlier this year, where I convinced him to get on the mic too - it's inspired by a very old poem and about very deep true feelings of one person to another, and a moment when one suddenly forgets the other...

DUSTY KID - III - Isolade

Discosafari - DUSTY KID - III - Isolade

Dusty Kid's third album is a cinematic experience of almost 2 hours listening conceived as a single piece of music, like a wall of bricks that strictly belong to each other to give the whole album a well defined story. The album, mixed by using few different vintage consoles and recording everything on a reel-to-reel tape in order to get a more alive and lofi result, moves towards a very underground feeling. There are no easy-listening melodies (don't expect in fact any "America" or "Lynchesque", any "Kore" or "Chentu Mizas") but it rather sounds like a saga of dirty, confused, delirious, sometimes bizzare and ridiculous, very dark techno moments.
"III" might remind of a noir-horror-fantasy movie to watch with eyes closed and where the listener is the main character who can play like in a 'shoot-em-up game made of many levels. The sinister calm of the opening, made of the leftfield acid ambient landscapes and industrial noises of the first 4 tracks, preannounces that something is going to happen and leads the listener into a further level of the game where entrance is initially restrained by a man at the door "He Won't Let You In".
Once got through listener is taken onto a further level and enters the "Leather Bears Cinematic Suite". The 5-tracks "suite" is a deep journey into the 90's techno with its first track "Doom" being an almost metallurgical hell as the listener climbs the stairs that will lead him into the main scene. From now on what the listener will see is just what he would expect to see there...the title of the "suite" says it all! "Pandemonium" and "Dark Room" really seem to drive the listener inside a wonderfully painted idea of what's going on in there.
As the listener takes the "Exit 12", that with its lofi and dark mix perfectly describes the feeling after a night spent in the "suite" and echoes of "Flashback" from the previous night still echoing in his confused and distorted mind, the journey goes even more deeply into the 90's techno. "Yota Wave" is in fact a skillfully grotesque recreation of a futuristic techno trance experimentalism of the early Plus 8 Records. Level after level listener goes on in the game and while "In The Wood" sounds like a track recorded from the radio with a poor quality cassette, the triad "Prelude"-"Omega Y" and "Omega X" just seems to be a track coming out from another track which comes from another track like in a concentric way. "Escape" follows in the same key as the previous triad with a flying ethereal athmosphere followed by a massive tribal anthem as "Idklip" explodes while the listener approaches the final level of the game. "Ending", a simple pronounced piano note that lays on a tender carpet of soffused strings and far reverbs leads the listener to the light at the end of this journey.

MY PANDA SHALL FLY - Tape Tekkno - Gang Of Ducks

Dancing around a totem, rhythm, groove and few words. My Panda Shall Fly, mystical guru of sound, drags along his 6 compositions, rhythmic machine-gun fire which creeps like splinters into the sound epidermis made of pad and lysergic bass lines. Without noticing you'll find yourself in a limbo where the most absurd idea makes sense, the harmonious chords blur into the dust raised by the dance and everything becomes pure expression. If the volume is high enough I'm sure you already stood up and left your chair.

THESE HIDDEN HANDS - These Hidden Hands - Hidden Hundred

HOUND SCALES - Femen - Fifth Wall Records

Discosafari - HOUND SCALES - Femen - Fifth Wall Records

PIERRE DEUTSCHMANN - Betroit - Blu Fin

Discosafari - PIERRE DEUTSCHMANN - Betroit - Blu Fin

SERGIO PACE - May The Acid Be With You - Old And Young

"May the Acid be with You", questo il titolo dell'uscita, è un inno alla acid techno dei primi anni 90.

"May the Acid be with You", folks!

DRUMCELL - Sleep Complex - CLR

Discosafari - DRUMCELL - Sleep Complex - CLR

MIKE PARKER - Lustrations - Prologue

PAULA TEMPLE - Colonized - R & S Records

Discosafari - PAULA TEMPLE - Colonized - R & S Records

Paula Temple
- “Il suono industriale”. Mi piacerebbe poter iniziare così un saggio sull’ultima release
R & S, firmata Paula Temple.

discosafari - ED DAVENPORT presents: INLAND - Solstice EP - Counterchange Recordings
